ATP > Zizou Berg (73rd) puts Nick Kyrgios in his place: “He can criticize a lot, but when he himself is criticized, he never takes it well”

Falling this Thursday against the local Zhizhen Zhang (6−4, 6–3) for the first Masters 1000 victory of his career, in Shanghai, Zizou Bergs recently gave an interview to our Argentine colleagues from Clay Tenis.

An interview during which the Belgian player, ranked this week 73e in the ATP rankings, responded to a not very nice comment from Nick Kyrgios on his celebration at Roland‐Garros last May (see below).

And if he admits to appreciating the Australian for his rather unique style of play, he did not hesitate to put him in his place. Excerpts

“Nick Kyrgios did not approve of the celebration. Did you see his comment on Twitter?

No. What did he say?

“Lame”, as in “uncool” (or weak, editor’s note).

“I barely know him, but I have to say that I like him very much. On the pitch, he does things a little differently. Saying “bad” is a little less nice of him. He can criticize a lot, but when he is criticized, he never takes it well. I’m not surprised he said that (laughs). »
