While summer recruit Elye Wahi has had a complicated start to the season so far, with only one goal for OM, coach Roberto De Zerbi supported his player this Thursday at a press conference, the day before to host in Ligue 1.

Everything started perfectly. Scorer in his first match with Olympique de , in August against , Elye Wahi had the dream debut. But what followed was more mixed. The striker, recruited for 30 million euros this summer, went four games without scoring and the arrival of Neal Maupay, at the end of the transfer window, put a real competitor in his hands.

Thursday, at a press conference, Roberto De Zerbi, however, wanted to put his striker’s current shortage into perspective. “He’s working well,” he said straight away. “He had a complicated start to the season, he arrived late. He wasn’t completely 100% and he immediately suffered an injury. Now, We are waiting for him to manage to reach his best form.”

“There is a lot of competition”

The Italian coach also hopes that his partners will succeed in helping Elye Wahi in his quest for goals. “The other players also need to help him a little more, serve him well, he said. Afterwards, to play or not to play, it’s the coach’s choice. For him as for others. others, there is a lot of competition. This is also the case for Harit, Murillo, Luis Henrique… We have a very strong team in all areas, but I want to win all the matches. are not the players lined up but OM.”

Geronimo Rulli, the Marseille goalkeeper, highlighted the age of his partner, asking to let him grow up. “Without a doubt, he is a very great player,” assures the Argentinian. He is very young and when you are young you have your ups and downs. We always expect these players to shine straight away but some need more time. He has the support of the coach, the staff and the entire team. No one is going to blame him.”

Facing Angers this Friday evening, Wahi will therefore have a new opportunity to find the path to goal. “He has very good qualities, he is technical, very good in spaces,” detailed Rulli. “There aren’t many players like that and it’s a pleasure for us, he gives us a lot of variety. We have to be patient and I have no doubt that when he scores again, we will be even happier.”
