It’s the end of a mystery that lasted nearly 31 years. Michel Becker, the co-organizer with Max Valentin (deceased in 2009) of the treasure hunt “On the Trail of the Golden Owl” announced this Thursday that the famous Golden Owl was found.
“We confirm that the countermark of the Golden Owl was dug up last nightsimultaneously with sending a solution to the online verification system”, he said on Discord. “There is therefore no point in traveling to dig on the location you assume to be the cache.”
This owl (3 kilos of gold, 10 kilos of silver and set with 500 diamonds), is valued at more than 150,000 euros.
Eleven clues to find the Golden Owl
To search for it, the hunters had in their hands a book containing 11 puzzles, which must be solved to discover the secret location.
Among the eleven textual clues, a sort of literary and numerical rebus and the eleven visual clues, appear throughout the pages, small poems like “First step”: “Where you want/ By the rose and the coachman/ But where you must, by the compass and the foot. The reader could imagine themselves facing the Pythia of Delphi or, more contemporary, in the show Fort-Boyard, in front of the old man at the lighthouse, a riddle-setter.
The clues contained in the book have been constructed in the form of a puzzle: to find the second clue, you must first have deciphered the first, and so on. It is all of these clues that make it possible to determine the exact location of the cache.
