searched for 31 years, the mysterious “Golden Owl” has been unearthed

This is perhaps the definitive end of a treasure hunt that has lasted for thirty-one years. The “Golden Owl”, buried somewhere in and sought by thousands of ambitious people, has been unearthed, announced a co-organizer of the game, Michel Becker, Thursday October 3.

“We confirm to you that the countermark of the Chouette d’Or [une réplique en bronze] was unearthed last night, simultaneously with a solution upload to the online verification systemhe said on the social network Discord. There is therefore no point in moving to dig on the location you assume to be the cache. As previously announced, we are verifying the validity of the proposed solution”

One million francs

This great game, made up of 11 puzzles, was launched in 1993 by Régis Hauser, under the alias Max Valentin, and Michel Becker. A book, On the trail of the Golden Owlcontaining the problems to be resolved was then published. The value of the “Golden Owl”, promised to the winner, was estimated at one million francs at the time, or around €150,000 today.

The solutions to the puzzles, still unknown as long as verification is in progress, could therefore be revealed soon. It is Michel Becker, who cast the “Owl” and illustrated the puzzles, who holds the solutions, following the death of Régis Hauser in 2009. He recovered the rights in 2021 following legal proceedings with the heirs of the latter. Additional clues were then published, which Régis Hauser was already doing during his lifetime.
