Explosion of a Thermobaric Bomb by Russia in Vovchansk

According to various Russian media, Russia recently used a thermobaric bomb in the Ukrainian city of Vovchansk. This weapon is considered the most powerful non-nuclear weapon in the world.

The thermobaric bomb can create a huge “destructive shock wave,” as reported by several Russian sources dated October 2. Despite its low awareness among the general public, this weapon represents a considerable danger for civilian populations.

Videos posted on X and other social networks show a significant explosion in Vovchansk, caused by this bomb named ODAB-9000. Nicknamed “the father of all bombs”, it would have a power equivalent to nearly 44,000 kg of TNT.

Its operation relies on harnessing “oxygen from the ambient air to generate an intense explosion,” causing widespread destruction. However, the use of this bomb also carries risks for those who drop it. According to the Kyiv Post, this requires deploying a bomber above the target, making it vulnerable to Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems.
