House of Spoils: a new horror thriller from Blumhouse to watch on Prime Video

If you like horror movies, then don’t miss House of Spoilsavailable since Thursday, October 3 on Prime Video. Directed by Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy, this horror thriller produced by the Blumhouse company will transport you to the heart of the kitchen of a young chef, while she must face an invisible and evil presence…

The world of cooking is known for its demands, its great rigor, the difficulty of finding a place in it… Characteristics that cinema likes to explore in distressing, even terrifying scenes. After The Menuavailable on Disney+, which follows a couple invited to the restaurant of a Machiavellian chef on an isolated island, it is Prime Video’s turn to offer its horrific version of the culinary world with House of Spoils.

House of Spoils: what is the film about?

Worn by Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), House of Spoils follows the daily life of a young chef who has the ambition to become one of the greatest. But before that, she must operate her restaurant purchased in a remote region. A first dream that she has just realized. From now on, her destiny is in her hands: it is up to her to become a renowned chef. Unfortunately, everything is not going to go as planned, and our heroine will see her dreams shattered one by one. The cook had not imagined all the pressure and management that opening a restaurant could represent… But what if behind this chaos was in reality an evil presence hiding?

The chef, ready to do anything to save her establishment, decides to confront this supernatural force. She then launches into a fierce struggle to save each of her efforts threatened by this invisible presence. How far can she go without endangering her mental health?

The mental load at the heart of House of Spoils

In House of Spoilsthe viewer finds himself face to face with a young woman who must not only fight against a supernatural force, but also against the pressure that the latter imposes on her. Indeed, with each effort, the evil creature takes great pleasure in destroying everything, forcing the leader to redo everything again and again, inflicting an endless mental burden on her.

Through the horror genre, directors and screenwriters Bridget Savage Cole and Danielle Krudy denounce this work policy where many employees are under pressure, but also self-employed people who sometimes cannot afford to take days off. House of Spoilsproduced by Blumhouse, is in line with other films from the production company created by Jason Blum: we are thinking in particular of Split or even Get Outwhich also hide, beneath this psychological horror, a real question about society.
