A terrible accident occurred in the middle of the day on Wednesday at the entrance to the village of La Meignanne, near , in Maine-et-.

According to Le Parisien, a retired couple, aged 78 and 81, were fatally hit by a car while they were walking on the side of the road, corroborating sources reported.

The victims, an elderly couple of pedestrians

The two victims, a 78-year-old woman and an 81-year-old man, were struck down by a car driven by a woman, accompanied by her eight-year-old child. The firefighters who arrived on the scene were unfortunately only able to note the deaths of the two retirees. The Angers public prosecutor, Éric Bouillard, told AFP that the driver and her child were not injured in the accident.

Circumstances still unclear

According to the first elements communicated by the prosecutor, the alcohol and narcotics tests carried out on the driver were negative. The exact reasons for this accident remain unknown at this stage of the investigation. Local authorities continue to work to elucidate the precise circumstances which led to this tragedy which left this small town near Angers in mourning.
