Not far from the passage of planes

Around 8 a.m., the bomb exploded at an aircraft taxiway, which connects to an airstrip.

The events occurred in an area called “shoulder zone”. And if the wheels of the planes don’t pass over them, the wings sometimes fly over them. Metal fragments were found over a perimeter of 200 meters. Two minutes before the detonation, a plane was treading the runway towards Haneda, near Tokyo.

At Miyazaki Airport in Japan, a section of the taxiway collapsed, which was later determined to have been caused by unexploded ordnance. A camera at the nearby Aviation College captured what is believed to be the moment of the explosion ud83dude33ud83dudca5pic.twitter.com/5frSckrDxK

An explosive at least 80 years old

According to our Japanese colleagues, the explosive dates from the Second World War. This would be a lost warhead, unexploded during the conflict. At that time, Japan was primarily the target of the American military, for its attack on Pearl Harbor in particular, the premise of the United States’ entry into the war.

This would be the first time that a bomb has exploded on a traffic route, moreover so close to a site bringing together as many people as an airport. Five others have exploded nearby since the war, but never this close.
