the price increasing, but by how much and when?

After a slight drop in gas prices in September, the trend starting to rise again in October. Households using this energy for heating or cooking will therefore have to anticipate a higher bill.

The month of September marked a short truce with a temporary reduction in pricesbut from October, the Energy Regulatory Commission indicates a new increase. The price of the kWh goes from 0.13 euros to 0.14 euros for hot water and cooking, while for heating, it rises from 0.10 euros to 0.11 euros.

On the other hand, the price of the subscription remains unchanged, setting the amount at 114.30 euros for cooking and 277.43 euros for heating. This stability of the subscription does not compensate the impact of rising costs for many households, in particular those having subscribed to an offer indexed to the benchmark price of gas.

New increase

This new increase is in line with previous increases. In July, the benchmark price of gas had already increased by 11.7%, which affected a large part of the 11 million households using this energy.

The decline in gas subscriptions also seems linked to this price development. Between 2022 and 2023, around 197,000 subscribers canceled their gas contract. Indexed offers on the benchmark price are however considered less risky than other options, according to the Energy Ombudsman.

In August 2023, the benchmark price of gas for heating was 0.084 euros, but a year later, in August 2024, it rose to 0.105 euros. For cooking and hot water, it increased from 0.107 euros to 0.132 euros over the same period, highlighting a continued upward trend.
