what were the targets targeted by Tehran?

The result of the Iranian offensive against Israel is difficult to assess. Iran says it targeted air bases, Israel says they were civilian targets. An information war is underway on social networks to disseminate the narrative of both camps.

A new turning point in the war between Israel and Iran. This Tuesday, October 1, 200 missiles were launched by Tehran on the Hebrew State to avenge the death of the leaders of Lebanese Hezbollah and Palestinian Hamas, including its leader Ismaïl Haniyeh killed in July while he was in Tehran. This offensive was largely neutralized by the air shield composed of the Arrow 3 system and the Iron Dome.

These shots also triggered an information war. On the one hand, the Israelis claim that the attacks mainly targeted civilians. For General Mohammad Bagheri, chief of staff of the Iranian army, Iran “only targeted military bases”.

During an intervention on national television, he specified that his troops targeted “the three main military air bases”, namely the Mossad headquarters in Tel Aviv, the Nevatim air bases where the F- 35 and those of Hatzerim which house the F-15s used during the attack on the headquarters of Hezbollah in Iran during which Hassan Nasrallah was killed.

The F-15s of the 69th squadron

The IDF has not confirmed or refuted that these targets were achieved. At the same time, on social networks, numerous posts spread the narrative of one camp and the other, claiming to have details on these attacks. But for the moment, no Osint reference source, such as Osint Defender, has provided information on the sites affected or not. Osint (Open Source Intelligence) is an intelligence collection technique obtained on the basis of information from open sources and cross-checked.

Concerning the Nevatim base, many X accounts share identical information, but never sourced, claiming that the base would have been reached. They claim that during this offensive around twenty F-35s were destroyed.

Videos seem to support these assertions – we see explosions, but without really knowing where and when they took place – however these could be images dating from last April, when this base was already hit by gunfire. Iranians. An American source revealed at the time that five Iranian missiles had reached this objective. On the other hand, according to these sources, no F-35 had been affected. They reportedly damaged the main runway, a C-130 transport plane and storage warehouses, but no combat aircraft.

During this April attack, Iran’s first on Israel, 350 drones and missiles were fired from Iranian territory, 99% of which were shot down by Israeli air shields. The Iranian offensive was supported by fire from 170 drones and 150 missiles from Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari confirmed that the infrastructure of the Nevatim base had been affected, specifying that the damage was minor.

Still according to these X accounts, “several F-15s” from Hatzerim air base were also hit on October 1st. It is home to the 69th squadron which operates the fleet of F-15 fighters used to kill Nasrallah. Here again, several messages posted claim that this squadron from southern Israel suffered heavy losses, but nothing is yet verifiable.

Unit 8200 reached?

This is also the case for other sites targeted by Iran such as the Mossad headquarters, but also unit 8200, near Herzliya. This ultra-secret section specializes in technological espionage. She would be at the origin of the beeper and walkie-talkie operation which attacked Hezbollah in Lebanon which was never claimed by the Hebrew state.

The power of the 8200 unit is recognized worldwide. It would have a base in the Negev desert that Iran tried to reach during its October 1 offensive. This army would include thousands of cyber spies. Iran says it has reached this unit’s ultra-sophisticated radar. Obviously, the IDF does not confirm any assertion by the Iranian General Staff.

The only information from the IDF on the results of the attack concerns the interception of Iranian missiles, including Fattah-type hypersonic ballistic missiles. “There were some impacts in the center and others in the south of the country,” said Israeli army spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, an IDF spokesperson.
