The next front page of the “New Yorker”, which highlights the Democratic candidate for the American presidential election, is by Malika Favre, an independent French illustrator.

Cocorico. You’ve probably already seen it on social media. On October 7, the American weekly “The New Yorker” will release an issue dedicated to Kamala Harris. In its pages, the media announces its support for the Democratic candidate, a few weeks before the presidential election across the Atlantic. “The Vice President has the values and political skills to build on the successes of the Biden administration and help end, once and for all, a poisonous era defined by Donald Trump. A style that mixes Pop Art, optical art and geometry

For the cover of this historic issue, the weekly once again called on Malika Favre, a French artist. Through minimalist sketching and a clever mix between Pop Art, optical art and geometric lines, the latter imagined a portrait of the politician, drawn in black on a blue background. A light shines on her face and a white star-shaped earring almost seems to sparkle.

Born in the 1980s, Malika Favre grew up in the Parisian suburbs and was always immersed in an artistic world, her mother being a painter herself. At 19, she abandoned her scientific studies to attend an art school. After attending the National School of Applied Arts and Crafts in , then the University College of the Institute of Art and Design in Surrey, she decided to settle in London where she strives to work and refine his style. Today, and for several years now, Malika Favre is an independent artist based in Barcelona.

A collaboration with “The New Yorker” which has lasted for eight years

This is not the first time that the Frenchwoman has signed the cover of the “New Yorker” since the two parties have collaborated for eight years. “I still remember this very first email that I received from Françoise Mouly [la directrice artistique depuis 1993, N.D.L.R.] asking me to send cover ideas. I was over the moon and started drawing almost straight away. Three weeks later, my first “Page Turner” cover was published,” she recalls on her Instagram account. In total, the illustrator imagined sixteen. In particular one on Bob Dylan, Lesley Gore or even Queen Elizabeth II the day after her disappearance.

Thanks to her unique and colorful style, Malika Favre has managed to attract major American media, such as “The New York Times”, “Vanity Fair” and “Sunday Times” but also major brands like Sephora.
