two explosions near the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen – Euractiv FR

Two explosions occurred near the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen late Tuesday night (October 1-2). The information was confirmed by the Danish police.

The explosions occurred in the capital, Copenhagen, not far from the Israeli embassy. Police did not give details of the incident, but confirmed it happened in the “immediate neighborhood” from the Israeli embassy « late at night » and there were no injuries.

“We are of course looking to see if there is a link with the Israeli embassy, which is nearby. But it’s too early to say.”said Deputy Police Commissioner Jakob Hansen during a press conference on Wednesday October 2.

This incident comes as, the day before, the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, was targeted by gunfire which caused no injuries.

The two explosions occur in an unstable geopolitical context in the Middle East, with Iran having fired several hundred rockets at Israel overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in response to the Israeli military operation carried out in southern Lebanon.

Law enforcement officers cordoned off a large area around the scene of the explosions, which is expected to be maintained for several hours. At this stage, no arrests have been made, police add.

“We are shocked by the explosions near the embassy earlier today. We have full confidence in the Danish police in handling the case and continuing the investigation.”wrote the Israeli Embassy in Denmark on X.

The Israeli embassy is located in the suburb of Hellerup, north of Copenhagen, an area where several other countries also have their embassies and consulates, including Romania, Thailand, Iran and Turkey.
