Hurricane Helene enters the American election campaign

    • Former President Donald Trump spread reports about the Biden administration’s mishandling of Hurricane Helene on Monday. President Joe Biden was quick to contradict his predecessor’s comments.

    • What happened?

      • Donald Trump first declared Monday on his social network that the government was doing everything not to help citizens in the Republican areas affected by Helene.
      • Then, during a tour of a disaster area in southern Georgia, he claimed that President Biden was ignoring pleas from the hard-hit state’s governor.
      • Donald Trump, however, indicated that he did not want to politicize this disaster.

Joe Biden denied the comments of his political opponent. “I don’t know why he’s doing this, and what makes me angry is that he’s implying that we’re not doing everything possible. This is wrong and it is irresponsible. » For his part, Republican Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp confirmed that he had indeed spoken with the president on Sunday.

    • Political representation:

      • Donald Trump arrived in Georgia wearing one of his “Make America great again” campaign hats.
      • He partnered with an organization to bring a shipment of food, water and fuel.
      • The former president also launched a “GoFundMe” campaign to raise funds for the victims.
      • For his part, President Biden announced that he would travel to North Carolina on Wednesday and that he would remain discreet so as not to distract attention from humanitarian operations.

Two of the states that suffered the most from Helene’s devastation — North Carolina and Georgia — are among the decisive states for the November 5 presidential election. More than 130 people lost their lives in the disaster and hundreds are still missing.
