IT HURTS HIM

The Canadiens suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night at the Bell Centre. Kirby Dach was the team’s only scorer, in a game where bad luck struck the Habs with the loss of forward Patrik Laine and defenseman David Reinbacher early in the first period. Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau shared the task in net, making 11 and nine saves respectively. After the match, the club made personnel moves, sending 27 players to . Owen Beck, Sean Farrell, Filip Mesar and Florian Xhekaj were part of this group. They will report to the Rocket training camp which begins Tuesday at Place Bell. Lucas Condotta and Brandon Gignac, who went unclaimed on waivers Monday, will also be in camp. In total, 31 players are still at Canadiens training camp.

The Habs (2-2-0) and the Senators (2-1-1) have an almost identical preseason record so far. The latter suffered a 5-2 defeat in their last game against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Sudbury, Ontario, as part of Kraft Hockeyville, on Sunday. Former Canadiens player Nick Cousins, who joined Ottawa in the off-season after winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers last summer, and Tim Stützle found the back of the net for the Senators, while that Anton Forsberg made 21 saves in net. Of the 56 players who started the team’s training camp, 29 remain.
