Increase in APL and small pensions, increase in the price of gas… which changes on October 1, 2024

Housing allowances and small pensions benefit from an increase in October. Conversely, the reference price of gas increased by 5.37%.

The month of October begins, and with it several changes in your daily life. From the increase in housing assistance to the flu vaccination campaign, including the price of gas and small pensions, we take stock.

A person receiving 100 euros of housing assistance allowance per month will receive 103.26 euros from next month. The revaluation applied by the Family Allowance Fund is based on the evolution of the rent reference index for the second quarter of 2024.

It concerns 5.8 million households and many students for whom housing remains the main item of expenditure.

The +3.26% of APL will not completely compensate for the increase in university rents in Orléans (+3.5%). Nor the increase in the cost of student living noted by Unef for the start of the 2024 school year.

850,000 retirees will see the amount of their pension increase by 50.94 euros on average. This is the second wave of revaluation of “small pensions” not exceeding 847.57 euros per month.

The first benefited 600,000 retirees in September 2023. It is a provision of the pension reform to support the pension of retirees who have a full career, but who had low income during their professional life.

The benchmark price of gas increased last July by 11.7% on average before falling slightly in September. It started to rise again in October, going from 130.21 to 137.20 euros per megawatt hour, an increase of +5.37%.

Since the removal of the regulated sales price, a gas reference price has been published each month by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE). The consumer is free to sign a more advantageous contract with a new operator. As long as you know your way around the 18 natural gas suppliers…

Pretending to be a bank, a company or a public administration, the fake advisor scam (the “spoofing“) causes thousands of victims each year, mainly in the banking sector. In 2023, it represented nearly one in two cases handled by the mediator of the Association of Financial Companies (ASF).

As of 1^is October, calls from fake banking advisors will be blocked by operators. A call origin authentication system will put an end to spoofing via landlines, but not from a mobile phone which will always be possible. Vigilance remains essential.

Like every year, the fall season marks the start of the flu vaccination campaign.

From October 15, it is possible to be vaccinated at your doctor’s office, in a pharmacy or even in a midwife’s office. People said to be at risk* must have already received a voucher to collect the vaccine free of charge from a pharmacy.
