The farm gate price of a kilogram of cocoa for the 2024-2025 season in Ivory Coast, which is 1800 FCFA/kg, is considered a real lack of consideration towards farmers.
The kilogram of coffee is set at 1500 FCFA/kg.
As a reminder, on Tuesday March 26, 2024, the price of cocoa exceeded the threshold of $10,000 per ton, or around FCFA 6,050 per kg on the New York market.
In view of this increase on a national scale, Ivorian farmers feel shortchanged regarding the setting of prices for this season.
Several Internet users expressed their dissatisfaction on the subject through social networks.
“But why when the international price is very high does the council not respect the 70% or 60% of the international price to the planters as they say.
Today, 60% give at least 2500frs. We were told about sales in anticipation that the 2024/2025 campaign we were going to have a price that takes into account the international price.
I think that 1800 is not so bad, but to be clear with us planters would be in good faith. Why should we always suffer exploitation to the detriment of other professions or sectors? Why deny us what is rightfully ours? “.
“It’s not enough when we all know the international price. Some will say, this is a historic price. While all the conditions are met to have a better price at the farm gate. The State can buy Ivorian cocoa from producers twice (2) times the price that has been set today.”
“Compare this price to that of the international market and to certain countries which sell for at least 5,000 francs per kg and add to it the galloping inflation of recent years, you will see that 1,800 francs per kg is very paltry.
This confirms the fact that in Côte d’Ivoire those who are the pillars of the Ivorian economy, that is to say the planters are the least paid in the production chain and many of them are in the precarious situations and this is truly deplorable.”
“The prices are very far from what we expected. The 60% that should go to our parents has not been respected. In addition, the price is below that charged by our neighbors, this could encourage the flight of our products to these countries.
Now that we claim to have diversified our sources of income, why continue to make our planter parents suffer?« we can read in the comments.
