Sven Vanthourenhout has only just become national coach, but he is already burning with ambition to work elsewhere. Where and in what position that will be has not yet been decided, according to Vanthourenhout.
“At the moment I don’t know yet where I will work, contrary to what some say,” says Vanthourenhout at VTM News. For example, Tom Boonen claimed that he knew where Vanthourenhout would be working.
Boonen seemed to reveal that Vanthourenhout would be joining Soudal Quick-Step, with Remco Evenepoel’s team. “That is one of the options,” Vanthourenhout also admits honestly.
Vanthourenhout not going to UAE?
However, there were also rumors about UAE Team Emirates, where Vanthourenhout could team up with newly crowned world champion Tadej Pogacar. “That is a bit more difficult,” he says.
“After working with the best Belgians for so long, you still want to lean towards that in some way.” Soudal Quick-Step (Evenepoel) or Visma-Lease a Bike (Van Aert) then? There should be clarity at the end of October, beginning of November.
