The price of lettuce has doubled in one week

The average price of eggplant continued to increase to reach €2.65/kg. The same goes for green zucchini, which costs €51 cents each, green peppers cost €1.54/kg and lettuce, which reaches almost €1.10 per piece, doubling the price in one week. .

A unit price of more than one euro for lettuce is unprecedented in recent years at the sales of the Federation of Horticultural Cooperatives of Belgium. The last time the price exceeded this mark of €1 each was in week 4 of 2019. This spring, the price of lettuce was also very high for several weeks, but never touched this limit . Other types of salad also saw their prices increase last week.

For tomatoes, the median price remained stable compared to the previous week, with prices of €1.12/kg for rounds and 1.03 for bunches. The expected rise in prices in the fall to compensate for this summer’s meager results has not yet really materialized.
