A tragedy unfolded this Saturday, September 28 during a wild boar hunt which took place in Bussy-Albieux in the . A hunter who participated in this hunt was fatally shot by a bullet while a hunting action was in progress. The investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident.

The hunter died instantly.

We could say that the hunting season is not yet the one where the number of accidents will be at 0 among non-hunters as well as among hunters but as far as the world of hunting is concerned, these considerations are largely secondary even if the anti-hunting people will pounce on this drama.

What matters to us is that one of our comrades lost his life during a hunt.

The 42-year-old farmer was participating in a wild boar hunt in the territory of Bussy-Albieux, a town located west of , when the tragedy occurred.

The man was killed instantly when a bullet hit him in the head. The accident occurred when wild boars showed up during the hunt and several shots were fired.

The Loire Hunters’ Federation quickly reacted to this tragedy which had not affected the department for 15 years.

COMMUNIQUÉ

THE hunters of the Loire in mourning

Fatal hunting accident Saturday September 28, 2024 in Bussy-Albieux

On behalf of all the hunters of the Loire, the President, Gérard AUBRET, wishes to express the dismay and sadness of the 9,000 hunters in the department at the accident which cost the life of one of their own. “My first thoughts, like those of all hunters in the department, go first and foremost to the family of the victim to whom we extend our sincere condolences. It’s an absolute tragedy.”

Of course, the investigation carried out by the gendarmerie and the environmental police will determine the exact circumstances of this accident.

The time has not come to go further in the comments, but this drama will then need to be analyzed in order to draw the necessary measures.

The federation is very attached to safety throughout the hunter’s career. This begins with the examination of the hunting license where safety is essential, then nearly 2000 people have already been trained in upgrading every 10 years, the only activity having this continuing training, more than 1500 hunters are trained for the role of hunt manager. We have also recently completed the Departmental Hunting Management Plan by further restricting the security aspect. We help, with the support of the Regional Council, to develop hunting territories by installing elevated posts to ensure accurate shots.

If the Loire hunting community has not experienced such a tragedy for almost 15 years, it is appropriate in such circumstances to show compassion, humility, and humanity. »

The investigation is ongoing.

The objective is now to understand how this tragedy could have occurred during the investigation opened for “manslaughter”. Investigators quickly arrived on the scene and all participants were returned to their posts while a helicopter flew over the area to better understand the accident scene.

For the moment, the perpetrator of the fatal shooting has not yet been identified.

We will therefore have to wait until the gendarmerie’s conclusions are known to understand what could have happened.

All our thoughts are with the family and friends of this hunter.
