The exorbitant price of a concert ticket shocks India

Mumbai is not cheap. In 2025, Coldplay plans to give an exceptional concert in this city in India. A highly anticipated event as evidenced by the 180,000 tickets sold in just a few minutes last week. In the crosshairs of this scandal, the practice of “dynamic pricing”. This automated pricing strategy, first used by companies to take advantage of periods of high demand, is in the crosshairs of the British competition authority (CMA), which has notably opened an investigation against the reseller Ticketmaster, a giant of ticket sales.

This CMA will have to study whether “purchasers received clear information” and whether they “were put under pressure to buy tickets in a short period of time at a higher price than they thought they would have to pay, which could have an impact on their purchasing decisions.

The organization has also opened an investigation into the sale and resale prices of tickets for the Oasis concert. As a reminder, at the beginning of September, the chaotic sale of tickets for the dates in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin aroused the anger and frustration of buyers, faced with breakdowns on saturated sales platforms and the unpleasant surprise of discover at the last moment this pricing which caused prices to soar from €150 to more than €350 for certain tickets.
