Salary increases above inflation are expected in 2025

The TELUS Health Annual Salary Projections Survey estimates that salary growth is expected to outpace inflation for the first time in four years.

According to the results of the 42e edition of this study, average base salaries of non-unionized employees in Canada are expected to increase by 3.45% in 2025.

This forecast, which excludes salary freezes, is explained by the current labor shortage and far exceeds Canada’s current inflation rate, which is 2% as announced by the Bank of Canada.

“The persistent demand for qualified personnel is contributing to a strong increase in salaries for 2025, despite the easing of pressures on employers due to inflation,” indicates Guylaine Béliveau, national compensation practice leader at TELUS Health, by press release. As the inflation rate falls, employees want to regain the purchasing power they have lost in recent years.”

The main conclusions of the survey, which is based on data from different sectors of activity representing more than 355 organizations in Canada.

In Quebec, the wage growth rate is expected to reach 3.41% in 2025 after the 3.85% observed in 2024. This is slightly lower than British Columbia (3.60%), l Alberta (3.54%) and New Brunswick (3.50%).

The sectors where the expected increases are the highest are construction (4.13%), real estate (3.92%) and business services (3.90%). These same three sectors were those with the highest growth already in 2024.

The sector which will observe the lowest salary increases in 2025 should be public administration (2.75%). (N.P.)
