Despite a goal from Gvardiol, City held in check by Newcastle

Manchester City conceded a draw on the lawn of St James’ Park in Newcastle on Saturday in the Premier League (1-1). Josko Gvardiol opened the scoring before x Gordon responded from the penalty spot.

Again for Manchester City. After having already faced a very low opposing block during their last match in the Premier League, against Arsenal (2-2), Pep Guardiola’s men were once again faced with an ultra-defensive strategy, this time from the departs from Newcastle.

Regrouped in their half of the field and proceeding with counterattacks, Eddie Howe’s players nevertheless managed to keep the Cityzens in check

Without Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne, City was able to count on their defender-scorer Josko Gvardiol to open the scoring. After good work on the left side from Jack Grealish, the Croatian got the ball in the area before eliminating a defender with a hook and finishing from the right into the side net (35th). Like a center forward.

Despite a very defensive strategy, Newcastle took advantage of a counterattack at the start of the second half to come back level with the Cityzens. Hit in the area by Ederson, Anthony Gordon equalized from the penalty spot (58th).

The Brazilian goalkeeper, however, had a good match, notably authoring a spectacular save in front of Joelinton shortly before half-time (45th+1).

City then had a monopoly on the ball but came up against a solid Magpies defense. In the Newcastle cages, Nick Pope was brilliant and in turn disgusted Phil Foden (73rd), who came into play in the second half, then Bernardo Silva (90th + 2).

After the draw against Arsenal, Manchester City shares the points for the second time in a row in the Premier League.
