Football: Yverdon makes a big move against Saint-Gall

Yverdon Sport won on Saturday at the Municipal Stadium against Saint-Gall (1-0). A victory which puts the Vaudois back on track.

Because Alessandro Mangiarratti’s men had to get back on track after losing their footing a week ago in Lausanne (3-1 defeat).

Facing the Saint-Gallois, who have beaten them six times in their last seven duels, the Vaudois presented themselves without many injured players, including the last ones to come to the infirmary: Gonçalo Esteves, Dimitrije Kamenovic and Djibril Diop.

A complicated task awaited them, even if YS has won 85% of its matches played at home since its return to the Super League.

The Yverdonois played very concentrated defensively in the first half, leaving little space for the Saint-Gallois who nevertheless have the best attack in the championship. In goal, Paul Bernardoni did what was necessary to prevent his team from falling behind. And YS could even have opened the scoring in the 18th, but Enrico Maassen’s men came back well.

The second period resembled the first, with sterile St. Gallen domination. And, we know, in this type of match, the dominated can sometimes make the difference. This is what happened in the 72nd minute, when Hugo Komano victoriously took a pass from Anthony Sauthier for the 1-0. The Yverdonnois were then able to contain the opposing attacks until the end of the match.

This victory allows the Vaudois to move up to 8th place in the ranking while they were penultimate with one point ahead of Winterthur. For SAint-Gall, this setback prevents them from joining Servette at the top of the ranking (5th).
