The Minister of Oil of the Republic of Niger, Sahabi Oumarou, begins a working visit to Algeria on Saturday, as part of strengthening cooperation relations between the two countries in the field of energy, particularly hydrocarbons, announced the Ministry of Energy and Mines in a press release.

This visit, during which Mr. Oumarou will head a large delegation made up of officials and executives from the Prime Ministry, the Nigerien hydrocarbons sector and the Nigerien Petroleum Company, is part of “the mutual desire to open new perspectives for the development of relations between the two countries,” said the press release.

These relations “are experiencing constant and notable development, thanks to the visits exchanged by senior officials of the two countries, with a view to implementing the cooperation programs in place and finalizing joint development projects, in particular the research and development project. “Sonatrach’s exploration and the trans-Saharan gas pipeline project (TSGP),” added the same source.

This visit follows that made by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, to the Republic of Niger on August 6 and 7, 2024.

The program of the visit of the Nigerien Minister of Oil to Algeria provides for “several meetings, in particular with the Minister of Energy and Mines and officials, as well as the visit to certain energy installations and training institutes in the sector, in order to to explore ways to diversify and extend cooperation between the two countries to other areas such as refining and petrochemicals, and to benefit from Algerian expertise in these areas.”
