In Saint-Brieuc, around thirty people gathered for World Abortion Rights Day

“In , there are still white areas and people have to travel miles to have access to voluntary termination of pregnancy. » This Saturday, September 28, World Abortion Day was an opportunity for Family Planning 22 to highlight the difficulties of accessing abortion locally. A gathering, followed by a stroll through the town center of Saint-Brieuc, brought together around thirty people at the initiative of the Maison des femmes des Côtes-d’Armor.

One in two women still wait too long

It will soon be 50 years since the Veil law relating to abortion was adopted in . “It does not include minorities, transgender and non-binary people in particular, who do not have access to gynecological care,” continues Kim Barradeau, member of the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Côtes-d’Armor. She also emphasizes that one in two women in France “must still wait seven days to have an abortion while the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends access within five days”.

This gathering, in which around ten men took part, was also an opportunity to recall the setbacks that certain countries are experiencing regarding abortion. And to point out certain members of the new Barnier government, “who voted against the inclusion of abortion in the Constitution”, recall the representatives of Planning and the Women’s House. “We have a Prime Minister, Michel Barnier, who voted against the decriminalization of abortion.”
