The Israeli army celebrates the end of 32 years of Nasrallah’s leadership of the Hezbollah organization

The Israeli army announced today, Saturday, that the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, “was killed in the raid that targeted, yesterday, Friday, the party’s leadership headquarters in the southern suburb of Beirut.”

Army spokesman Nadav Shoshani said on the “X” platform: “Hassan Nasrallah was killed.” Another army spokesman, Captain David Abraham, confirmed to AFP the “elimination” of the Secretary-General of Hezbollah.

A source close to Hezbollah in Beirut said that “contact has been lost” with Nasrallah since Friday evening, but pointed out that rumors of his death spread during Israel’s last war with Hezbollah, in 2006, but he later reappeared unharmed.

An Israeli military statement stated that the raids also resulted in the killing of Ali Karaki, whom the statement described as the commander of the southern front in Hezbollah, and an unspecified number of leaders of the Lebanese organization.

The statement explained: “The strike was carried out while Hezbollah’s senior leadership was operating from headquarters and planning terrorist activities against citizens of the State of Israel.”

The same source stated: “During Hassan Nasrallah’s tenure as Secretary General of Hezbollah, which lasted 32 years, he was responsible for the killing of many Israeli civilians and soldiers, and the planning and implementation of thousands of terrorist acts,” according to the wording of the statement.

He continued: “He was responsible for directing and carrying out attacks all over the world in which civilians of different nationalities were killed. Nasrallah was the party’s central decision-maker and strategic leader.”

The exchange of fire between the Iranian-backed party and the Hebrew state began about a year ago, the day after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7. The spark of the war on the Gaza Strip.

Over the past few days, Israel has shifted the focus of its operation from Gaza to Lebanon, where a violent bombing campaign has led to the deaths of more than 700 people and the displacement of about 118,000.
