We recommend both products individually in our guides. We think the Blink Out of doors 4 is the right choice. The name is a bit of a misnomer as you can also easily place it inside your home, especially because it runs on two AA batteries. You will only need to replace the cells every two years or so.
If you place the camera outdoors, you can rest easy knowing that it is weatherproof. Other features include night vision, motion detection, and two-way audio. You will need a Blink subscription plan to store clips in the cloud. Alternatively, you can save the footage locally with a Sync Module 2 (available separately) and a USB stick.
As for the Echo Present 5, it is one of the (only beaten by its big brother, the Echo Present 8). This is a smart compact 5.5 inch display that works well as an alarm clock on your night desk. The Tap to Repeat feature is very handy, while there’s a sunrise alarm that gradually brightens the screen.
The Echo Present 5 has a built-in camera, which might worry you if you want to place it near your bed. But the physical camera cover should address any privacy concerns in this regard.
