British actress Maggie Smith aka Professor McGonagall in the “Harry Potter” saga has died at the age of 89

Born in 1934 in Ilford in the county of Essex, she began her career in 1956. In 1992, she played the mother superior in the film Sister Act. She will become world famous thanks to her interpretation of Professor McGonagall in the saga Harry Potter from 2001 to 2011. She will also play in the hit series Downtown Abbey as Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham. Thanks to this performance, she won three Emmy Awards. She won two Oscars, three Golden Globes and four Emmy Awards throughout her career.

In June 1967, she married the actor Robert Stephens, who died in 1995, with whom she had their two sons Chris and Toby. They divorced in 1974. She then married Beverley Cross in 1975. They remained together until his death in 1998.
