Nigeria accelerates transition to compressed natural gas

In Nigeria, the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi) is launching a series of initiatives to promote the adoption of CNG and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

On the one hand, the PCNGi signed an agreement with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to facilitate the conversion of vehicles to CNG.

Carriers benefiting from this conversion will thus be able to benefit from price reductions of up to 40%.

This measure is expected to encourage mass adoption of CNG in the road transport sector, particularly in the Abuja region.

At the same time, PCNGi continues to develop its network of CNG conversion stations.

By the end of the week, 38 new centers will be opened in several states across the country, including Kaduna, Abuja, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Delta and Edo.

This expansion will help meet the growing demand for vehicle conversion and facilitate access to CNG for individuals and professionals.

The PCNGi also signed an agreement with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to train police cadets in the management of CNG conversion centers.

This initiative will strengthen the capacities of law enforcement agencies in terms of energy transition and contribute to the promotion of CNG within the Nigerian police.

Nigerian youth are also at the heart of this energy transition. PCNGi will soon launch a CNG tricycle empowerment program, enabling thousands of young people to engage in economic activity while contributing to environmental protection.

These initiatives are part of a desire to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on oil imports and promote cleaner and more affordable energy.

The Nigerian government hopes to improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and stimulate the local economy.
