“Obviously, justice will do its job. […] The government does its job, each minister within his competence,” continued Emmanuel Macron during a press conference in Montreal, not commenting on the controversy over the profile of the suspect in Philippine’s murder. “We must protect the French better every day, do it, do it, but say less,” he added.
A suspect in the murder of Philippine was arrested in Switzerland, in Geneva, on September 24. This man, a Moroccan national aged 22, was convicted of rape and was under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF). He was released from the Metz administrative detention center on September 3, before Morocco issued the consular pass allowing the implementation of the OQTF.
His profile sparked numerous political reactions. Some officials blamed “the criminal and administrative chain” in this case, judging that the suspect should not have been released before obtaining the pass allowing his expulsion to Morocco. Other personalities have made a link with immigration.
Funerals organized in Versailles
Philippine’s funeral will be celebrated this Friday afternoon, at 1 p.m., at the Saint-Louis cathedral in Versailles, in Yvelines. According to BFMTV, the religious building was chosen because the young woman made her confirmation there, and it can accommodate up to 1,500 people. On Wednesday evening, a prayer vigil was already held at the Saint-Pierre du Lac church in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, attended by Philippine and her family. About a hundred people, including his parents, were present.
