A few weeks ago, seeing him again in orange and blue was a strong possibility but the MHSC did not decide to take the plunge and positioned itself a few days later on Birama Touré. Finally, Benjamin Stambouli, on Tuesday evening, made his first appearance in the jersey of FC Metz, his new club which he joined freely. Coming into play at the hour mark when the score was already 4-0 against Martigues (6-0 in the end), the midfielder did not have to work too hard but the first return of the Lorraine supporters were positive.
A few days earlier, he answered questions from BeIN SPORTS on this choice to join the Garnets for two seasons. The player trained at Grammont seemed to have exchanges with the club’s management:
“It was the FC Metz project that convinced me. This project was explained to me by Frédéric Arpinon, by the president Mr. Serin but also by the coach I was able to speak to on the phone when I signed. There were quite a few elements that convinced me. I know that we are going to have a season with great dynamics, with victories I hope. At the end, there is a real objective with the rise to Ligue 1. There is a beautiful stadium, a good audience. It was an opportunity for me to enjoy playing football again and having good times. […] Physically, I’m gaining strength, the physical trainers are having fun with me (smile). I am available to the group but it was 4 months after my last match, we try to be as intelligent as possible to have a full season. »
His return to Montpellier Hérault has been in the pipeline several times since his departure in 2014, now aged 34, we can logically think that this will never happen. While waiting to meet again on Ligue 1 pitches, we hope so, we wish him the best in the rest of his career. And perhaps a return to Grammont will take place in another form at the end of the latter, this is a subject which has already been raised between the parties during discussions.
