Gilles Van der Spek has died: he lit up the Télévie set with his “profitivism”

Brussels resident Gilles Van der Spek has unfortunately died. In 2020, he discovered he had a rare form of pancreatic cancer. He had nevertheless decided that his life would be synonymous with light and had developed the notion of “profitivism”, a mixture between being positive and enjoying life. His time on the Télévie set left a lasting impression.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Gilles Van der Spek. This thirty-year-old from Brussels suffered from a rare form of pancreatic cancer. A cycling enthusiast, he set ambitious sporting goals which he shared on social networks.

Gilles Van der Spek was renowned for his optimism. Last April, on the Télévie set, he detailed his philosophy of life: profitivism, a mix between taking advantage and being positive. “Even though it may come as a surprise, my illness, I see it as an opportunity to grow, inspire and become a new beautiful person”he said to Jean-Michel Zecca, who, amazed by his solar character, offered him to become the godfather of the 2024 edition of the cyclos du coeur. What Gilles had accepted.
