PS5 Pro pre-orders open

Last week, we told you about products that will be marketed in a fortnight. These are the new Xbox Series which are on pre-order until October 15. Since we are talking about new developments, it would not have been fair not to address what is being done on the competition side. Especially when Sony made an announcement not long ago. Sony opens pre-orders for PS5 Pro console starting today.

Since their release at the end of 2020, the two families of “next gen” consoles have been charting their course. Even though both brands offer standard models and All Digital consoles, the similarities end there.

While Microsoft has, since the launch of the first models, marketed several consoles, Sony has limited itself to a smaller number of models. On the other hand, the manufacturer accompanied them with several “accessories”. But today, it’s good next new console that we are going to talk about.

PlayStation Pro 5 launch

A design very close to the PS5

We are not going to dwell on the design of this new machine, because it is very close to that of the PS5. In addition, you can discover or see it again through the visuals and videos below.

It should still be noted that it is a little larger. This is therefore a criterion to take into consideration if you had already planned a place next to your screen.

PS5 Pro, the strong points

When a new console is announced, the first thing we want to discover is the technical sheet. Then, we wonder what more it will bring. We could also have talked about the design, but if the characteristics do not follow, it very quickly becomes less attractive.

According to Sony, this console hasan improved GPUd’advanced ray tracing andune fonction PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This will speak to some people right away, but to others it amounts to hieroglyphics. We will try to cover all these points.

A better GPU

The GPU or “Graphics Processing Unit” is a processor made up of cores responsible for optimizing image rendering. So, the more powerful and optimized the console is, the more it will be able to display images in high resolution and with beautiful effects. Then, what players are looking for is also a higher and more constant refresh rate possible. The objective of all this is also to obtain better fluidity.

According to the manufacturer, the PS5 Pro’s GPU integrates 67% more processing units and faster memory (+28%), compared to the PS5. The direct consequence, again according to the brand, is almost 50% faster rendering of games (+45% to be precise) and better fluidity.

Boosted ray tracing

Sony has worked to offer better ray tracing: more dynamic reflection and refraction. Behind this term which may be foreign to some of you, even if it is fashionable, is a technology which aims to reproduce the management of lights as faithfully as possible. We must therefore take into account reflections, the propagation of light, shadows, etc.

The manufacturer announces that it can, thanks to the PS5 Pro, project light rays two to three times faster than what is done on the PS5.

Upscaling helped by AI

Another “learned” word, you say? So what does upscaling mean? This corresponds to a treatment which aims to increase the definition of an image. It consists of adapting the image to a greater definition than the original definition.

Let’s return to the subject that interests us: the PS5 Pro. This is not new, manufacturers are integrating AI almost everywhere in their products. We find them in our smartphones and, now, in our consoles. On the PS5 Pro, Sony relies on technology allowing images offering a better level of sharpness and detail.

Mode Game Boost

This new console features a Game Boost mode compatible with more than 8,500 PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. The interest is not only to launch them, but above all to stabilize and improve performance (as well as the display) of these titles on PS5 Pro.

We must not forget that the console has WiFi 7.

For which audience?

The PlayStation 5 was actually released almost four years ago, and yet, the machine does not seem to have shown everything it has in its belly. There are already some great video games out there, but is this really the best it can do? We can assume that she still has some left under her feet.

With the launch of the PS5 Pro, Sony is obviously not looking to replace the PS5. The Japanese brand had already carried out the same type of operation with the PS4. Moreover, we can note that Sony took one more year to release its Pro version. The PS4 was launched in November 2013 and the PS4 Pro in November 2016. However, Sony is keeping the same period, namely just before the Christmas holidays.

With this launch, the company seeks to expand its range and offer an intermediate machine for the most demanding players. She can also count on her fans or even collectors.

We imagine that all gamers interested in this console also have a screen worthy of the console. Indeed, is there a real point in buying this machine if you connect it to a Full HD or 2K screen, especially if you already have the PS5?

Those who do not already own the PS5, who wish to take the plunge and who have the budget could also be attracted by these pre-orders of the PS5 Pro.

Obviously, this allows you to have a more powerful machine that brings new features, but there is one criterion to take into consideration, and not the least: the price.

PS5 Pro pre-orders launched

A console for 800 euros

After talking to you about the console for a few lines, it’s time to tackle the painful subject. We are not going to beat around the bush: the Playstation 5 Pro console costs 799 euros.

This therefore makes a nice difference with the PS5, even after the increase in summer 2022 As a reminder, here is what a PS5 currently costs:

  • PS5 (Slim) : 549 euros
  • PS5 Digital Edition (Slim): 449.99 euros

You understand why we are wondering about the target audience. This console is not within the reach of all budgets. Not everyone will be able to participate in these PS5 Pro pre-orders.

For those who are wondering, the console comes with a 2To SSD hard drivea Dual Sense wireless controller, as well as Astro’s Playroom game.

So, if you read correctly, you found a difference compared to the PS5. The PS5 Pro is sold without a Blu-Ray player (Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc). You will have to purchase it in addition at the price of 119.90 euros.

This has the advantage of not paying for something that you will not use if you subscribe to the PlayStation Plus service or if you buy digital games. For others, the bill is even higher.

Pre-orders open September 26

The console will be available from November 7. On the other hand, if Sony has planned a significant stock, you can pre-order it today on the direct.playstation.com website, as well as at some partner resellers (for certain territories). Then, you will have to wait until October 10 to pre-order it from all partner resellers.
