Sinner and Alcaraz will make people unhappy

On the sidelines of the Beijing tournament, which began on Wednesday in China, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz respectively announced that they would not play in the Vienna and Basel tournaments, both scheduled for October 21 to 27. The world number 1 will therefore not defend his title in Austria.

Bad news for the organizers of the Vienna and Basel tournaments. The two respective headliners of these two indoor tournaments scheduled for the end of October during the same week (from October 21 to 27) will certainly shine, but by their absence. Unfortunately for the spectators in the Austrian capital who had planned to attend the event as well as for the people of Basel who also already had their tickets for the most anticipated tennis event each season in the city, the two players in question their names are Jannik Sinner, world number 1, and Carlos Alcaraz, third in the ATP rankings and another superstar on the circuit.

The Italian should have lined up in Vienna. The Spaniard was scheduled for Switzerland. The two men will finally be resting this week, at the dawn of the Rolex Masters which will take place the following week (from October 26 to November 3) and will take place for the last time on the courts of the Accor Arena (Editor’s note: The event will move from 2025 to La Paris La Défense Arena).

Sinner will lose 500 points

On the sidelines of the Beijing tournament, which began on Wednesday in China and saw the qualification for the 2nd round of Sinner at the expense of the Chilean Nicolas Jarry and while Alcaraz has not yet played his first match, which will oppose the young Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the winner of the Australian Open and the US Open and the player who lifted the trophy at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon this year have made it known that they will not be not in the game in Vienna and Basel.

Alcaraz, who withdrew at the last moment during the last edition due to combined pain in his left foot as well as his gluteal muscles, will therefore leave Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Hubert Hurkacz and other Felix Auger -Aliassime, double title holder, do battle. The current world number 1, for his part, will not defend his title in Vienna, where he won in 2023 at the expense of Daniil Medvedev, who had won the tournament the previous year. The Italian is therefore already certain of losing 500 points in the ranking.
