Good sorting practices

Lucie Fada, the City’s Director of Citizenship, Flavie Dufau and Baptiste Carion with sorting ambassadors from Grand Narbonne led the operation funded by the City, Grand Narbonne and the State. More than 30 children and young people, supervised by their facilitators, put on reinforced gloves and equipped with buckets and tongs, they picked up the various waste. The cigarette butts were collected in bottles recycled for this purpose. The objective was to “teach the right actions and sorting, while making people realize that not everything is clean” explains Baptiste. A large amount of waste was scattered on the ground despite the proximity of trash cans.

Before the weather threat stopped the action, the collection of all the waste represented ten buckets of various objects: cans, packaging, glass, joints and even a tire. A whole bucket of cigarette butts was also collected. The Sorting Ambassadors were able to, in a practical way, introduce sorting before the collected waste was sent to the recycling centers and the participants were able to share a snack.

In some areas of Aude, certain rubbish collected from the ground is highlighted at the very place where it was thrown, in order to make people realise that incivility does not go unnoticed… the best way to clean up is to not litter.
