Before facing Thailand in the round of 16 of the Futsal World Cup, Raphaël Reynaud, the coach of the Blues, reacted to the controversy following the match of the French team against Iran (1-4) during the last group match.

The non-match between France and Iran (1-4) continues to make the rounds on the web with numerous video extracts from last Sunday’s match. The Blues were heavily criticized by Thailand coach Miguel Rodrigo, who accused them of being “a global disgrace” for playing with the handbrake on in order to avoid a match against Morocco in the 8th round. With Thailand being known to be weaker, the French would then have a better chance of reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.

In the columns of Le Parisien, the coach of the French team, Raphaël Reynaud, responded to Rodrigo’s comments: “What is the part of intoxication and destabilization in this controversy? I can’t talk about it too much except that we know the Spanish coach of Thailand well. He is very often in controversy. He has already done so by criticizing the installations in Uzbekistan and put the organizers in a delicate situation.”

While Rodrigo announced that he was eagerly awaiting the Tricolores for this round of 16 of the Futsal World Cup, scheduled for Friday 27, the coach of the Blues shared his vision of things regarding the upcoming match. “I have immense respect for Thailand and for Thai futsal, which did not wait for this coach to perform well. It is a great futsal nation. The match will be very complicated no matter what,” he explained. “We have an opponent ranked 9th in the world and we are ranked 10th. They are the favorites. We will do everything to upset the odds.”

After last Sunday’s match, Libya and Paraguay lodged a complaint with FIFA, but nothing was done about it. “We had a meeting this morning (Wednesday) with FIFA, Thailand and all the organisers to discuss and prepare for this round of 16. There was not a word about this complaint,” Reynaud said.
