Intercontinental nuclear missile causes explosion at Russian military base

Between September 19 and 20, flames took over the Russian nuclear missile launch site in Plesetsk. The fire was apparently triggered by an incident during a test launch of an intercontinental missile. The Observers editorial team was able to speak with analysts who highlight the dangers of such an incident.

It is a rare incident that can only be observed from the sky, as many satellite images relayed on social networks show: the Russian nuclear missile program Sarmat has just suffered a new failure. Also called RS-28, this missile has a range of 15,000 kilometers and can carry around fifteen nuclear warheads.

On September 20, an unusual heat source for northern Russia appeared on the screen of NASA’s fire detection satellites. Three thick red dots indicated a fire. The next day, they were still visible.

Hot spots spotted by NASA satellites indicate a fire has broken out at a Russian military satellite launch site in Plesetska highly sensitive place.

Other images provided by the Sentinel mission satellites show the presence of flames on September 20.

Better quality satellite images provided by the company Maxar allow us to see the extent of the damage caused by the fire.

For the strategic systems analyst Etienne Marcuzethis is a common practice:
