Yari Verschaeren: “My goal? I told myself that it was better to resume in one go”

SHis last goal was in the Champions Playoffs when he gently struck into the top corner of Racing Genk’s net in May.

This Wednesday evening, it was at the base of the post that Yari Verschaeren deceived the vigilance of Dibusz, the Ferencvaros goalkeeper. “Mario saw me at the edge of the box and I saw that I had space around me. I told myself that it was better to hit the ball in one go and it went in”, says a Yari Verschaeren very much in form for this first match of the League phase in the Europa League.

In addition to his goal, the RSCA number ten delighted the crowd for over an hour. Sometimes by breaking out of the Hungarian pressure with his technique, sometimes by very often finding Sardella on his right flank with a ball that was always precise.

“We had the match under control”

A solid performance from a boy who hasn’t always been on top form since the start of the season. “I felt good in this match,” confirms Verschaeren, who is logically convinced that Anderlecht deserved their success on Wednesday evening. “It was really important to win this home match to start the European campaign. In the first half, we had the match under control. We didn’t give much away, even if we didn’t create much either, despite some good combinations. We were able to score a first goal and the second came quickly after. It’s a shame to have given ourselves a scare in the last few minutes.”
