Real Madrid – Alavés (3-2): what to remember from the match

Real Madrid won 3-2 against the Basques of Deportivo Alavés, thanks to goals from Vazquez, Mbappé and Rodrygo.

With their 3-2 victory over Alavés, Real Madrid celebrate a full year of unbeaten in La Liga, a few days before returning to the pitch where they suffered their two defeats last season. It was Vazquez, Mbappé and Rodrygo who allowed the Meringues to succeed in finishing this year invincible.

Real Madrid’s best game of the season?

With two goals in the first half, Ancelotti’s men started the match on the right track. Valverde’s perfect cross for Vinicius and the latter’s work gave the first goal to Vazquez, who had already scored against Alavés last year.

Then, Real Madrid were able to unfold with great control in midfield, enabled by the assurance of Tchouaméni, the incessant runs of Valverde and the caviars of Bellingham. The Englishman also offered his best pass of the match to his French teammate Kylian Mbappé, shortly before half-time.

Mbappé, again and again

The French international scored his fifth goal in seven La Liga games, equalling the record set by Bellingham and Cristiano Ronaldo when they respectively arrived in Madrid. In all competitions, the Frenchman has seven goals in nine games, which is not bad for a player who has not been at his best since the start of the season.

Above all, he scored his best goal this season with a perfect one-two with Jude Bellingham before beating a defender and lining up the goalkeeper. Mbappé would not have pulled off this move in the first match of the season as it requires a strong bond with his teammate to understand each other and open up a five-man defense in two passes. A new example of Mbappé’s linear progression with his teammates in the white jersey.

A moment of distraction that could have been costly

The Bernabéu wanted it, it got it. Vallejo’s entrance was greeted with a standing ovation but the fans quickly became disillusioned. On the first goal, Vazquez, who had been excellent until then, was at fault, then Real Madrid conceded the following minute because of a sleeping Vallejo.

Beyond these two names, it was the whole team that experienced a terrible let-up at 3-0 that almost cost them dearly since Alavés had 3-3 balls in a match that seemed to be over. Real had accustomed us to starting half-time with their heads still in the locker room, but they have just shown us the opposite tonight. Yellow card for Ancelotti’s men, which adds to the many cards given by a disastrous referee during this match.
