League Cup: Christopher Nkunku leads Chelsea, Manchester City and Aston Villa – League Cup – Summary – 16th

No surprises but some great goals.

During the 16es Chelsea sweep Barrow aside in League Cup final (5-0) thanks in particular to a great Christopher Nkunku who scored a hat-trick. Already the author of two goals after fifteen minutes, the French international concluded the large success of his team, also marked by the magnificent direct free kick from João Félix, with a goal offered by Paul Farman, the opposing goalkeeper, with a nice blunder to the key. Manchester City had more difficulty getting rid of Watford (2-1). Yet well helped by a failed recovery from Ryan Porteous, Jeremy Doku allowed the Citizens to take the lead from the 5th minute. Everything is under control, especially with Matheus Nunes who doubles the lead by scoring his first goal with the Skyblues before the end of the first act, but Pep Guardiola’s men will give themselves a scare by conceding a goal from Tom Ince in the 86th minutee. But it won’t be enough to stop City from reaching the last sixteen.

At the same time, Aston Villa barely beat Wycombe (1-2). After a balanced first act but without any big chances, the Villa’s take the lead thanks to Emiliano Buendia (55e) before Jhon Duran thought he had put an end to the suspense by making the net tremble in the 85th minutee. It is without counting on Richard Kone who allows the League One resident to believe in it, but it is ultimately too late. In the other match of the evening, Leicester had to go to penalties to eliminate Walsall (0-0, tab 0-3).

More tomorrow with Arsenal-Bolton and Liverpool-West Ham.
