Futsal World Cup: Beaten by Portugal, the Atlas Lions will challenge Iran or in the round of 16

The step was too high. The Atlas Lions fell against Portugal (4-1), this Sunday, September 22 at the Humo Arena in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), during the match counting for the 3rd day of the group stage of the World Cup.

Captain Soufiane El Mesrar scored the only goal for the Atlas Lions in the 32nd minute of play.

The Lions thus finished second in Group E with 6 points behind the reigning champions Portugal (9 points), and ahead of Panama (3 points) and Tajikistan who left the World Cup without a point.

The injury of Ismail Amazal, who limped off, but also the repeated defensive errors, despite the return from injury of Soufiane Borite, got the better of the Atlas Lions, who were in great difficulty against the Portuguese, who were impressive on all levels.

The national team will go to Bukhara to challenge the leader of Group F, namely or Iran (the final ranking will be determined this Sunday). If they advance to the quarter-finals, they will most likely challenge Brazil, in top form during these games and who are playing their eighth against one of the best third-placed teams.
