A big plume of smoke and flames escaping from the heights of Tourlaville, in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. This is what could be seen early this Thursday evening. Shortly after 7:30 p.m., firefighters were alerted to a violent vegetation fire. Caplain road, near the Nationale 13 in the Collignon sector. The emergency services had to deal with a flame front of about 100 meters : a fire fanned by strong winds on the heights of the commune.
Significant resources dispatched to the site
Two intervention groups trained in forest fires have been mobilized : this represents eight tanker trucks, a fire truck, two water carriers, medical support and a column command chain. In total, 70 firefighters from nine emergency centres were dispatched to the scene. They were able to contain the fire around 9 p.m. According to initial estimates, one hectare of land went up in smoke. Anchoring operations were underway around 9:30 p.m. Nearly sixty firefighters were still on site.
A fire that disrupted traffic in the area. Around 8 p.m., police officers blocked access to the National Road 13 towards Collignon at the Tourelles de Tourlaville roundabout. The road was also closed at the height of the fire for part of the evening. : it was fully reopened shortly after 9:30 p.m.
