Death during a fishing trip on foot, fall into the abyss: Plougrescant town hall calls for vigilance

The site of the Gouffre de Plougrescant is as beautiful as it is dangerous. This is the warning message issued by the town hall, which deplores a new accident in this popular place to visit. On Sunday, September 15, a walker tripped on the rocks, injuring her head and wrist. Called in as backup, the emergency services mobilized numerous resources to rescue her. The victim was taken care of and then transferred to the hospital.

Shell, fall, discomfort…

Other incidents have also occurred in the town in recent days with the high tides. On Tuesday afternoon, the foreshore uncovered by the low tide revealed a metal object resembling a shell dating from the Second World War. The mine clearance operation scheduled for the next day by professionals was finally cancelled. Carried by the tide, the device moved or got stuck in the sand. Also on Tuesday, the fall of a person at Pors Scaff once again sent the firefighters to the scene.

This Wednesday evening, September 18, a walker also reported the lifeless body of a person in Rojo Wenn. The woman, 84 years old, originally from , was staying with her husband in Trévou-Tréguignec with their son and was fishing near Yvinec Island when she reportedly fell ill.

Mayor urges caution

The mayor of Plougrescant, Anne-Françoise Piedallu, deplores these repeated tragedies. “Emergency services are regularly called upon in the town, sometimes requiring a very large mobilization of machinery. The Gouffre site, due to its beauty, is very popular but remains very accident-prone. I urge the many visitors to be extremely careful. Similarly, during this period of high coefficients for this high tide, I ask for the greatest vigilance regarding the use of the foreshore,” insists the elected official.
