Death of a 5-year-old child in Coteau-du-Lac: incomprehension in the neighborhood

Neighbours of the residence where a 5-year-old child was found dead on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in Coteau-du-Lac, in Montérégie, are surprised that such a tragedy occurred in their neighbourhood.

“I really didn’t expect it, it’s quite quiet here,” said a neighbour met by TVA Nouvelles on Wednesday.

The latter also claimed that he “never heard anything strange coming from the house.”

Some neighbors affected by the tragedy brought stuffed animals to the residence where the tragedy took place.

“It’s just behind my house. When I saw that, it came looking for me,” said a woman interviewed by TVA Nouvelles early in the evening.

Around 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers were called to a residence on Chemin du Fleuve.

When they arrived, they discovered the body of the 5-year-old boy. He was pronounced dead on the spot.

The cause of the child’s death is still unknown, but his body bore signs of violence.

The child’s mother was charged with premeditated murder from her hospital bed.
