an ideal trip between mild climate, fewer crowds and savings

As Augustans pack up their bags to return to work, another category of tourists is emerging. Those looking to experience the charm of an autumn destination and escape the summer frenzy will find what they are looking for in Morocco. In September, and more broadly during the autumn, Morocco offers a perfect combination of pleasant weather, fewer crowds and more affordable prices, while revealing breathtaking landscapes and festive events.

In an article titled “September, the ideal month for a trip to Morocco?”, the French magazine “When to go” lifts the veil on Morocco’s autumnal meanders. In September, Morocco reveals a particularly pleasant climate. Temperatures are moderate in the main tourist regions. In the north, cities like Tangier and Tetouan enjoy spring-like mildness with daytime temperatures around 25°C and rare rainfall.

The coastline of Casablanca and Rabat enjoys slightly higher temperatures, around 27°C, with less frequent rain than in the summer. Inland areas such as Marrakech and Fez still experience hot days that can reach 30°C, but evenings are now cool, making exploring more comfortable. In the south, cities such as Ouarzazate and Zagora see temperatures drop after the summer heatwave, providing ideal conditions for exploring the desert and surrounding landscapes.

One of the great things about visiting Morocco in the fall is the significant reduction in tourist numbers. After the summer peaks, the tourist flow diminishes, allowing visitors to fully enjoy major attractions, such as the souks of Marrakech or the historic ruins of Fez, without the usual crowds. This drop in attendance also translates into cheaper rates for accommodation and activities, making the trip not only more enjoyable but also more economical.

Already known for its lower cost of living than many European countries, Morocco becomes even more attractive in the fall. Prices for tourist services, meals and souvenirs tend to drop after the summer season, offering travelers the opportunity to save money while enjoying an enriching experience.

Autumn is a magical time to appreciate the diversity of Moroccan landscapes. In the Atlas Mountains, cedar and oak forests are adorned with warm colors ranging from orange-yellow to deep red. Autumn rains breathe new life into the valleys, transforming them into green oases. Palm groves contrast beautifully with the surrounding desert, creating landscapes of unparalleled beauty.

Autumn in Morocco is also a time of cultural events. It is a time of local festivals, music festivals and religious celebrations. Eid al-Adha marks the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca, while moussem, traditional festivals that combine religious rites, dances and horse races, offer a fascinating insight into Berber traditions. These events, often accompanied by lively craft markets, are the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture.

Morocco in autumn proves to be a destination of choice, offering visitors an experience that is both peaceful and vibrant, between mild climate, enchanting landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
