Timothy Castagne stepped up to take the 33rd penalty of the shootout but threw it over Woodman’s bar.
Ryan Ledson then stepping up to take the 34th penalty and send Preston through to the last 16.
A bit of League Cup history created, as this penalty shootout surpassed the 14 v 13 when Derby eventually beat Carlisle back in August 2016.
