Villefranche-de-Rouergue. A day around sustainable food

On Saturday, September 28, the Place de la Collégiale will be transformed into a real forum for sustainable food, bringing together associations, local stakeholders, producers, cooks and artisans for a day dedicated to “eating well”.

“Learning to consume better” is the leitmotif of the Gourmand’ici festival. A forum on sustainable food, on September 28, place de la collégiale. Organized by Ouest Aveyron Communauté as part of its Territorial Food Project (PAT), in partnership with the Bastides et Gorges de l’Aveyron Tourist Office, this event highlights local know-how and products.

“Reached a distant audience”

“This meeting allows food issues to be brought to life, particularly among citizens,” supports Michel Delpech, president of the intercommunality. “It is not a commercial event but a free one, with a desire to reach an audience far removed from these issues. It is important to promote good food and local products which make our region rich.”

From 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., visitors will be able to take part in a multitude of activities: cooking demonstrations by students from the city’s hotel schools, botanical walks, shows, exhibitions and games for young and old. The program includes family cooking workshops to learn how to concoct healthy and tasty dishes, bread-making workshops, as well as tastings of local products.

Friendly meal

The highlight of the day will be the large, friendly local meal, prepared by chef Aurélie Cailhol and the organic market garden cooks of the “Piquant Léger” collective.

“This meal, accessible to all for a low price, reflects the festival’s commitment to local, accessible and environmentally friendly food.”indicate the organizers.

At the same time, more than 30 stands will liven up the square, offering the public the opportunity to discover local initiatives in nutrition, organic farming, composting and screen printing. The day will conclude with a big snack from the association “D’ici et d’ailleurs”.
