Renewable energy: Morocco steps up the pace

The government is pulling out all the stops to keep up to date with developments in the energy sector, according to the daily. Eco Inspirations in its edition of Wednesday, September 18, specifying that three draft decrees were thus adopted during the last Government Council.

The first draft decree concerns the smart meter. “These bidirectional smart meters will be a cornerstone to accelerate the implementation of smart electricity networks in our country“, it reads. These networks will enable the integration of renewable energies and strengthen the security of energy supply.

The second draft decree aims to establish the terms for issuing certificates of origin proving that self-produced electricity comes from renewable energy sources and to specify the competent authority to issue these certificates of origin, in this case, the supervisory ministry.“The adoption of this decree will offer new opportunities for marketing green products, especially since a carbon tax is planned to be imposed at national and international levels,” explains the daily. This decree also takes into account the principles and standards applied at the international level in order to guarantee the validity of the certificates of origin issued by our country.

The third draft decree aims to stimulate energy savings. This includes allowing energy service companies to carry out studies aimed at saving energy consumption and improving the energy performance of energy equipment, based on the results of their studies.

With these three draft decrees, the government has tried to respond at the same time to several concerns of professionals in the energy and electricity sector, while positioning Morocco in a good position to face the challenges of renewable energies.
