Hadja Lahbib proposed for Humanitarian Aid, Crisis Management and Civil Protection within the European Commission

Ursula von der Leyen is due to formalise the composition of her Commission on Tuesday. Hadja Lahbib will inherit the portfolios of Humanitarian Aid, Crisis Management and Civil Protection.

Ursula von der Leyen’s new team for a second term at the head of the European Commission will include eleven women, or a proportion of 40%announced the German representative to the European Parliament in on Tuesday.

Mrs Von der Leyen, who wanted parity in this team of 27 commissioners, explained that the initial proposals from the member states gave a share of 22% of women. “This was completely unacceptable,” she stressed, while acknowledging that, despite the progress made in the final stretch, there was ” still a lot of work to do” .

All commissioners-designate will have to pass a hearing in the European Parliament before being officially appointed.

The outgoing Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs was to be head of the MR-Engagés list in the municipality of Schaerbeek. She finally preferred to take a step back to devote herself to the European Commission.
