In the new European Commission, which is to be presented this Tuesday morning, the Belgian Hadja Lahbib will obtain the powers of Humanitarian Aid, Crisis Management and European Civil Protection.

All commissioners-designate will have to pass a hearing in the European Parliament before being officially appointed.

The appointment comes as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is set to officially announce her team and portfolios on Tuesday. Crisis management and humanitarian aid are key areas for Europe, which must respond quickly to disasters while providing ongoing support to people affected by international crises.
